What is the Order of
DeMolay? |
The Order of DeMolay is a
character building, leadership developing
fraternal organization which offers to each
qualified young man from twelve through
twenty one years of age inclusive: |
- a wholesome
occupation of his spare time,
- friendships with
like-minded young men from around the
world,
- a safe and healthy
environment,
- an interesting and
well rounded program of youth
development.
|
How does DeMolay Operate? |
There are chapters of the
Order located in various cities in the
United States and countries throughout the
world. Each chapter is supervised by a
“group” of certified adult workers known as
advisors. The Order is governed by the
International Supreme Council whose
administrative offices are located in Kansas
City, Missouri, where the Order was founded
by Frank S. Land in 1919.
“As a (young) man
thinketh, so is he.” |
|
Is DeMolay a religious
organization? |
DeMolay does not recognize or
advocate any particular religious creed but
teaches only a belief in the one living and
true God. Reverence is one of the Order’s
Seven Cardinal Virtues. DeMolay is also not
a Greek letter fraternity and should not be
confused with either high school or college
fraternities. The Order has its secret
signs, words, and modes of recognition but
has no secrets from the world as far as its
central purposes are concerned.
“Happy is the (young) man
whose habits are his friends”

What type of induction
ceremony is used in DeMolay? |
The induction or initiation
of a new member consists of the conferring
of two very impressive degrees, the
Initiatory Degree and the DeMolay Degree.
The Initiatory Degree is based on the
explanation of the Seven Cardinal Virtues of
the Order. They are: Love of Parents,
Reverence, Courtesy, Comradeship, Fidelity,
Cleanliness and Patriotism. The DeMolay
Degree is a dramatic, historical account of
the final days of Jacques DeMolay. The hero
and martyr whose name we have taken and
teaches the lessons of fidelity and
comradeship.
Our one chance of real world
improvement is with the growing generation. |

What would my son gain from
membership in DeMolay? |
|
A young man needs the
highest type of associates more at the time
he is of DeMolay age than in any other
period of his life. Such a youth is
energetic and active and his efforts must be
directed in channels where he will occupy
his spare time to the best advantage. A
young man close to maturity needs a well
designed program of youth development in
which he will be genuinely interested and
will progress. All of these benefits and
many more will be found in DeMolay.
“No man ever drifted into
real success” |
